New Zealand’s Telework Revolution Still On Track

July 19, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

New Zealand’s teleworking community is growing slowly and still relatively low tech. It is expected to increase with the proliferation of broadband connections and formal telecommuting policies. From the New Zealand Herald

[Telework Consultant Bevis] England says a well established telework programme will typically deliver a business $300,000 per 100 employees per year in cost savings and benefits.

“Increasingly staff are demanding flexibility. That’s being driven by things like work-life balance. It’s also being driven by the newer generations that are entering the workforce. The result is that employers that don’t offer flexibility could lose staff.

“Where it costs between 100 and 250 per cent of salary to recruit staff, that’s a significant cost to a company. If you’ve got maybe 20 per cent of your workforce prepared to leave to get flexibility – and that figure is backed up by US research – then the cumulative cost to the enterprise could be a few million.”

“Breaking News” Postcards Promote Your Business

July 18, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

David Frey of Marketing Best Practices had a recent ezine giving an example of a “Breaking News Postcard” from the “Copywriting Chiropractor”, “Doc Nielsen”

The effectiveness of this campaign hinges on 5 factors…

1. “News” format attracts attention… a post card might do the same thing depending on your business.
2. Designed to be read – postcards at least get glanced at usually… many envelopes never get opened.

3. “Free” to the consumer… as you read the card, he’s farming for Worker’s Compensation clients… people who recently or in the future are injured at work and have to go to a doctor. Usually 100% is paid by worker’s compensation.

4. Fear free way to get more information via a website… no commitment asked for right away.

5. “Shelf Life”… If people like what they read, they may keep the card (or at least the name “Doc Nielsen” in their mind should they be injured at work.

Baffled By Pay Per Click Businesses Buy Click Packages

July 18, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

Local business owners don’t have time to figure out internet marketing. They just want to make money.

Yellow Page ad providers who are losing revenue to online ads had to do something… they have the time, resources, and expertise (or can buy it) to give the business owners what they want… clicks without having to learn GeekSpeak. They’re called “click packages”.

Could you provide this service as a home based business? One owner below is paying $2.10 per click but doesn’t know what keywords the phone company bids on to generate leads. If they can buy targeted clicks for 50 cents, they’re getting $1.60 profit!
Here are some examples:

From Start Up Journal

Micha Anderson, president of Chastain Chem-Dry, a carpet-cleaning service in Atlanta, spends $1,625 a month for 750 clicks from BellSouth — meaning BellSouth will keep bidding on keywords until at least 750 people click on Chastain Chem-Dry’s ads and land on the business’s site each month.

Mr. Anderson says he doesn’t pay attention to what keywords have been purchased on his behalf. He just knows that the traffic to his Web site has nearly quadrupled since the program began. “I don’t know what exactly are the mechanics of how they drive the traffic for us,” he says, “but it’s effective.”

Mr. Anderson of Chastain Chem-Dry pays top dollar for his clicks — about $2.17 per click, based on a monthly fee of $1,625 for 750 clicks. The top bid recently for “carpet cleaner” on Yahoo was $1.20 per click, according to information available on Yahoo’s Web site.

How One Realtor Uses The Net To Gain An Advantage

July 18, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

As I was out snooping around yesterday, I found how one realtor uses the ‘net to his advantage as a powerful lead generator.

As you know homes are listed on the Multiple Listing Service and agent input new data all the time.

Most home buyers depend on an agent to track down new leads or hunt through online listings themselves.

This agent has a computerized approach that scans the MLS listings many times per day for new homes listed.

He inputs the criteria his prospective home buyers give him and they are updated by email immediately when a home meeting their criteria hits the MLS system.

I kept waiting to hear the URL for signing up for this service.

The agent weeds out the “curiosity seekers” by requiring a prospect CALL for the service… suddenly his radio ads that generate leads don’t produce just ephemeral website hits that could easily max out his computers ability to handle all the reqeusts and he’s only emailing people who first called and were willing to establish a personal relationship.

Suddenly a database of “autoresponder leads” that may or may not produce results  is transformed into a real and lean list of hot prospects with their hands on their wallet.

Diabetic Shoes Funded By Medicare – Your Work At Home Chance?

July 18, 2006 by Chuck | 69 Comments

I spent quite a bit of time tracking this information down yesterday on this opportunity where you can have your office at home but you have to go out and meet people… and my source was a bit “closed mouth”.

Still, I think there’s enough here to show you where to look for this opportunity if it suits you.

I can’t even find this contact’s company listed on the internet… it’s an old “dirt world” business revitalized by a Medicare funding program that actually saves tax payers money in the long run.

Here’s the premise: Diabetics on Medicare access the system less, require fewer other treatments, and do better overall if they wear proper diabetic footwear with the correct inserts that allow for better circulation.

Around the world, diabetics without this treatment can have feet and legs amputated it’s so serious.

My brother, before he died at 37, had been a juvenile diabetic.

He never wore these shoes until the very end perhaps.

One time an infection got so bad in his foot and refused to heal, he was sent to a hyperbaric chamber … the pressure chamber was used to force oxygen to his extremities and did the trick.

About 11 years ago, Medicare got funding to provide a pair of these shoes plus inserts to Medicare patients with diabetes.

Evidently doctors routinely never mention this to patients… there’s a sales opportunity without asking for money. There’s no cost to the customer and they can ontain a new pair each calendar year.
If you can find one of the companies that does this. Medicare licenses different companies in each region. I found this one through a Craigslist posting.

The sales cycle from prospect to paycheck is @ 10 weeks.

If a diabetic has medicare, they sign a form, it’s faxed to their physician for approval, and  then to the company. You’re paid upon delivery when the patient signs… 4 – 8 weeks depending on the company’s orders.

The pay depends on sales volume, but is good – over $75 per pair. Reps use a variety of techniques to get business, mainly mini clinics.

The individual who introduced this to me has been in sales all his adult life… but finds this is the most rewarding and low key. He was also amazed at the sheer number of referrals he was able to obtain without even asking.

FYI…

Note, I tagged this as “Free” but it’s the opportunity that is free to sales reps. Thes shoes, though no cost to the consumer, are paid for by Medicare and it is wrong to describe them as “Free”.

Most With Option To Telecommute Prefer To Drive

July 18, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

Though some people are just DYING to work from home, for many the option is as attractive as bringing home work from the office! Before you make the jump home, you need to decide… is it working at home I crave? Or just a change in my work conditions?

For example, this study showed that while many (25%) CAN telecommute, only 2% do so full time.

From Government Technology

“It seems the professional and social environment of the workplace wins out over money and time savings,” said Charles Colby, president of Rockbridge Associates. “Though a fourth of the population could be working from home, most American workers still choose the office environment for the majority of their work week.”

Akismet Spam Blocker – 16351 Spam’s Later

July 17, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

It’s hard to believe how many spam attacks even a little blog like this gets.

A few months ago Akismet was installed to automatically intercept spam comments and it’s intercepted 16351 comment spams in that time which otherwise would have to be deleted by hand.

If you have blog, you know that the big comment spammers are fully automated operations sending hundreds of spam comments in minutes, showering your blog with thousands per day.

Thankfully, this doesn’t happen every day. If Akismet is down for maintenance as happened during one such attack… watch out!

Akismet is free for personal blogs and highly recommended if you’re using Word Press.

July 17, 2006 by Chuck | 0 Comments

Major Newspapers chains seeing their revenues dwindle precipitously are are jumping on board with Yahoo.

Yahoo hopes the joint venture will provide unique content and more exposure for their HotJobs.com job listings.

Newspapers hope to get a share of the revenue from the contextual ads Yahoo will display with their content.

And Yahoo’s penetration into local markets will increase as a result of the fresh local content provided by local reporters from across the nation.
