Work At Home Business Opportunities Weblog
As usual, our politicians fiddle while Rome, in this case America, burns. Raising minimum wages in an era of expanding self employment where business owners are less likely to have employees anyway will increase the likelihood of the unskilled and underskilled finding any work and tend towards more unemployment.
From The Entrepreneurial Mind
We are in a transitionary period in our economy the likes of which we have not experienced in over a hundred years. Our economy is becoming more and more dependent on entrepreneurs for growth. And yet, our politicians keep dancing the same dance that they have since the beginning of the big government era that started in the middle of the last century. This is no longer a time to horse trade between unions and corporate America. If we don’t wake up, we face economic atrophy that will assure that the US will be a second rate economic power within the next 20 – 30 years, if not sooner.
Our agenda needs to shift to one that will get government out of the way of our entrepreneurial economy. Instead our politicians are rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic…

This cozy bungalow looked like a good investment at the time. Paying 10% down and financing the rest at a dirt cheap rate through an adjustable rate mortgage seemed the best way to go.
“Double-check your mortgage terms before closing, not after closing,” he cautions. His mortgage rate might increase in late December 2007 — to 13%. Even if he raises the rents, he might not be able to make an operating profit on the property. Home appreciation could save him eventually, he says, if potential development of a year-round resort at Malans Peak and a generally strong market continue to boost Ogden housing prices. But he’d rather sell and start a new investment with better financing, he says.

Wazee Marketing offers professional tracking for your Craigslist Ads… The first three months is free, then it’s $5.00 per month. The bite? $125 to set it up! Ouch!
They make a good point but a $125 set up still seems pricey. Maybe that just weeds out the time wasters and tire kickers.
If you’re already making good money on Craigslist and want to expand though, you may need to check this service out.
Tracking the performance of your Craigslist Ad Campaign enables you to determine which ads and which titles generate more leads. I have seen certain titles on Craigslist generate seven (7) times more clicks than other titles, but you will never know this for yourself unless you utilize a tracking system. The same goes for your actual ads.
This system shows you how many page views your ads receive, which indicates how well your titles entice people to click them. If you have a website but do not have sophisticated web statistics software or simply do not have the time or knowledge to setup a system on your own, then I can set up forwarding pages for you. You simply link your Craigslist ads to one of the forwarding pages, and when a visitor clicks the link they are sent through the forwarding page and directly to your website landing page. This occurs seamlessley, and the visitor will not even realize they have gone through another page. But what this does for you is it records exactly which Craigslist ad that visitor came from.
Jason Hatchett tells how he got his home based business off the ground.
Here’s how you do it! Go to nice neighborhoods early Sunday morning about 5:00am and look for the newspaper boxes that are out by the road. Sometimes there under the mail boxes.
Don’t mess with the mail boxes, but you can put your flyers in the newspaper boxes, there’s no law.
My brother and I did the successfully for 3 years and no one ever told us not to. We would have 1000 flyers printed for free. How we got them free is we would put the printer’s ads on the other side. Told them how we would pass them out if they printed them, they loved it.
We tested many different colors of flyers but black ink with bright pink paper always got the best response. Don’t ask me why. One of us would drive the car; the other would roll the flyer and stuff it in the box. The reason we did it early Sunday is because most of the newspaper boxes had a newspaper in it. Then we would stick it right in the center of the newspaper. Then when they unrolled the paper our flyer was front page news. It took about 4 hours to pass out 1000 flyers this way.
But let me tell you what, Monday morning our phone was ringing off the hook. We almost always filled up the week with Monday’s calls. We did do other things besides window cleaning. E-mail me and I will send you the flyer we used, it was brilliant. If anyone wants to see the flyer just email me and I’ll be glad to send it to you.
Thank You, Jason Hatchett

Steve Weber Answers in interesting question…
QUESTION: I’m new to bookselling, but have been collecting for years. I need to start clearing some space. I’ve been selling in an antiques mall booth, and researching the different online venues.
My calculations show Amazon is one of the more expensive sites. I used a benchmark of selling 50 books a month for $10 each:
Amazon fees (non Pro-Merchant) = 50 x .99 = 49.50
Amazon commissions = .15 x 500 = 75.00
Amazon total = 124.50
eBay fees = 50 x .60 = 30.00
eBay commissions = .0525 x 500 = 26.25
eBay total = 56.25
As to Amazon versus eBay, I concede that eBay today is a superior selling venue for certain types of books — particularly collectibles that require pictures of the actual book and a detailed description of the condition, faults, etc.
But I’d argue that for most booksellers with general stock, Amazon allows you to sell at a higher volume, at a higher velocity, and with less customer-service issues than eBay. The time you spend hand-selling each commodity book on eBay costs you time, and time is money too.
To be sure, Amazon produces problems customers, but on a per-capita basis I got three times as many headaches from eBay sales — and non-sales. So I didn’t think that the slight savings in fees on eBay justified the extra time and aggravation. I probably could have fined-tuned my eBay selling to get the costs down a bit, but just didn’t have the motivation.
