West Palm Beach Employees Not Keen On Working At Home

Poll: West Palm employees not big on telecommuting

Why don’t people in this sophisticated area want to telecommute? Here’s one explanation…

Jeff Zbar, a work-at-home advocate out of Boca Raton who operates chiefhomeofficer.com, said he’s not surprised that West Palm Beach would be low on Microsoft’s list.

Many cities that ranked higher have more established technology bases and a much more established employer pool, “versed and entrenched in technology,” Zbar said. North Carolina’s Raleigh-Durham placed second, for example.

Inexpensive wireless devices and video cameras make telecommuting easy for those who want to make it happen. “What it really boils down to,” Zbar said, “is West Palm Beach specifically, but South Florida as a whole, doesn’t really identify as a hard core technology haven.”
