The Future Of America’s Working Class

Joel Kotkin in The Future of America’s Working Class notes how Britain is perhaps a bell weather and a warning for America. He notes how the recession there has hurt the nation with rising youth alcoholism and other ills. He notes:

[Britain] stands as a potential warning to the U.S., where working-class, blue-collar white Americans have been among the biggest losers in the country’s deep, persistent recession.

Kotkin fears we’re following the British path to self destruction. What he doesn’t offer, though, is that set of solutions being discussed in Britain right now in the book Red Tory…. worth reading.
