iPad’s Surprising Business Appeal

What’s your first take on the iPad?

Expensive toy?

Bunch of baloney?

Another form of Apple self indulgence?

Or business tool?

I don’t have one… I’ll wait till the new versions come out. I do have an iPhone though and use it constantly for business and professional purposes as well as personally.

So I’m not surprised by this headline – iPad’s Surprising Business Appeal.

Some interesting tidbits from the article

*80% say they purchase it for “business”. (My first thought “rationalization”!)
*90% want it for greater mobility and “working at home”

The fact that it DOES NOT have “ports” (USB) makes it attractive to IT security departments… it’s less likely to import viruses and malware into the business computer networks. It seems to have the power to run most corporate applications though letting users “Bring their own computer to work” according to the article.

Citrix ran the survey that produced these findings because – and this was new to me – they have tools that allow the iPad to emulate Windows 7.

My main question was “what apps does iPad have that let it be used by business”? Citrix’s involvement answers that question.
