So Are You Making Money On Kindle Yet?

I wrote awhile back about how to make money on Kindle.

So now I’m going to update you on my money making progress.

I have to admit, I don’t really do things the right way. Here’s how I test an idea.

1) I get the information if it sounds “for real”.

2) I put some effort into it

3) Then I get distracted (usually this isn’t a planned step)

4) Then I check back later and see if I made any money.

If I made some money… I think “hey, this is worth working on some more”!

And that’s what’s happened with Kindle.

Back in March I uploaded some books.  I’ve gotten some little checks from Amazon direct deposited. Enough to make me go “Hmmm…. I like that!”

Here’s what I learned:

1. I am making some “residual income”! If I didn’t do anything else and things continued, Amazon would be making me some money.

2. Kindle books aren’t like my regular market. The one thing I published about careers has sold NOTHING at all. I was sure it would fly off the digital shelf and make me rich. Not one sale!!!! I’ve had to adapt  my market and found something that sells pretty good. Kindle is not a macho market from what I’ve heard like internet marketing and responds to different stimuli.

3. So I lowered the price on that book to test a lower price. In fact, I lowered a couple of prices. It was a “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” thing.

4. Having a Kindle app on my iphone, I can see how people like to get Kindle Books. But frankly I only have free ones.  My best selling ebook was one selling for under $5.00  I’d heard books over $9.99 weren’t really moving unless it’s a HIGHLY motivated purchase.

5. That means it’s a “numbers game”. The more I can publish, the more I can see what sells, the more I can publish more of that, the more I can determine the right price, the more more residual income I can make.

Conclusion: I made some money… I’m going back to try making some more.

If I don’t blog for six months straight here, that means I got really sick or I made a BUNCH of money, and I’m sorry, but I forgot about having to write something.
