New Programs for Self Employed Health Insurance

March 14, 2009 by Chuck | 0 Comments

When I lived in West Virginia, I was fortunate enough to work for a company that provided business health insurance. They were family operated and family oriented and considered it part of their obligation to their employees. They wanted to treat them as “family.” They were paying through the nose for workers comp, but they wanted their employee’s covered 24/7.

It was always harder for self employed business people or small groups to get group health insurance. A friend of mine was an insurance sales person who sold individuals and small groups. At one time he was a “captive” agent only able to sell one of the stingiest programs around that most ordinary consumers would not consider “insurance” at all. Other folks are out there selling medical discount plans that can be confused with insurance until it’s “too late”. That’s why it’s crucial for find people specializing in group health insurance – especially since health savings accounts are becoming more popular and while as a self employed person fully insured plans may cost “an arm and a leg”, HSA’s may allow you to self insure at more affordable rates while protecting you from catastrophic losses to major illnesses or injuries.
