The New Breed of Mommy Blogger

You might want to read about The New Breed of Mommy Blogger

It’s an interesting phenomenon – bloggers who spend as much time promoting their own “brand” as anything else. They promote their blogs by putting out business cards in bookstores, grocery stores, etc. to reach their mommy audience.

And for some this is REALLY paying off… some of the “mommy bloggers” were negotiating deals for free automobiles, free travel to “blogging” conferences, and other perks. The link I’ve mentioned is one of the mommy bloggers who is somewhat aghast at the self-promotion required but looks like she probably has her share of advertising dollars for her trouble – her blog, a blogger one, looks very well designed for a “freebie”.

I find the comments very interesting. There’s a very fine line between content and product placement and some of the mommy bloggers seem too interested in pushing product at times. But then again, I’m not driving a free car as the result of my blogging…

Mom Blogs – Blogs for Moms…

  • Angela on February 27th, 2009 at 8:14 am

A lot of the mommy bloggers I’ve had the benefit of e-meeting have told me that they do get paid for some product mentions but every one of them has told me they give their honest opinion.

While that might not be what all companies would pay them for, it appears many of them (and me) still won’t let money cloud the truth.

I also think it has a lot to do with the push that mom’s online seem to have at the moment. There were those #motrinmoms on Twitter that got mad because motrin said a baby sling could give someone a backache. Companies want to tap that power the women seem to have. Where we’ll be when that push for the mom opinion is gone, I don’t know.

However, a little card dropping hasn’t hurt anyone. I think that’s something anyone could do to help spread the word about their website.
