As I asked before in the post “Will This Federal Law Destroy Your Small Business?” there’s great concern in the economic development field about this law.
These are the folks who work -usually – in public “incubators” to help start new businesses or encourage growth in existing ones.
In monitoring the chatter from this crowd, here’s what I heard recently from one West Coast economic developer –
We are actively working with many clients in our area to determine next steps in addressing the implications of the CPSIA 2008 Act, banning children’s products containing lead. We have been tracking the efforts of the National Association of Resale & Thrift Shops (NARTS) and the updates posted on CPSC.gov but still don’t have clarity for our local small businesses; several which are in jeopardy of closing their doors due to this.
If you’re selling children’s products and not concerned about this legislation – you’re asleep at the switch! You could be OUT OF BUSINESS!
