A Geek’s Guide To Promoting Yourself and Your Online Business in 140 Charact ers or Less with Twitter by Geekpreneur is an excellent introduction to using Twitter to market yourself.

Like most people who use any tool whether it’s a word processing program, blogging, etc. you get into a “rut”. You use the service or tool for “A,B,and C” but it might also be useful for “D,E, F, … Z” – if you took the time to explore its capabilities.

So if you think you know Twitter and are using it to full capacity – you just might be doing that. But then again, like me, you might be missing something.

And that “something” could be valuable. It could help you bost your business and help you get more “followers” who read your tweets and from time to time respond to your promotional efforts.

If you have a blog of course you should remember to put links to it after some teaser copy. You can get some cool wordpress plugins that turn each post into a “tweet” but frankly the copy ahead of the URL is pretty lame – “new blog post at…”

Now that’s exciting ad copy isn’t it? NOT!

So this reminded me not to be overly reliant on these little devices – not that it mentioned that per se but it got me thinking. It also made me check some blogs I set up using those plugins and they didn’t seem to work half the time anyway.

So if it’s a post you think deserves to be seen, some personal teaser copy would be good.

About that, one point this manual made was to attract attention. Everybody’s writing things about “I hate Mondays” … “I’m sleepy”… etc. whatever. But if you’re using it for marketing, capture traffic to your site or blog and make it count.

And I ran across other great tools that I was interested to know more about. Do I think it’s worth your time to check this out? Absolutely!
