Mainland China has 50 million Bloggers with over 100 million blogs according to The Age! The base of total internet users is 290 million. (In other words, one out of six people has at least one blog.)
Given that the government censors whatever they consider detrimental to their interests – they even censored Obama’s speech yesterday! – this phenomenon is worrisome to tyrants everywhere for fear that the people cannot be controlled.
Will it be allowed to continue? Would efforts to stem the flow of information ultimately succeed? It’s a cliche but as the “Old Chinese Curse” supposedly went, we can hope the control freaks in Beijing will “see interesting times”.
