It begins in 2009.
Till then, we only had to worry about .com,.net,.info,.us,.biz etc. domain extensions.
And most small time marketers still won’t have to worry much… unless they have $185,000 to invest in a unique top level custom domain name to host content like webpage.customextension
In other words, as this article speculates there could be extensions like .coca-cola or whatever they want.
That price tag puts the hurt on domain squatters snatching up $10 domain names.
But it also puts the hurt on trademark owners who can’t plop down $185,000 for every permutation of their brand!
How will it all play out?
Who knows.
