That’s a good question. If you’re a telecommuter, are you “out of sight and out of mind”? Could you be more likely to “get the axe”.
Obviously if you’re working for a company with many telecommuters like Arise, Working Solutions, or Alpine Access, your job is their “bread and butter”.
If your company thinks your telecommuting is a “favor” they do for you, they might get condescending about your usefulness real fast.
This is less likely to happen if you are in an area where telecommuting was a way for them to get a tax credit or grant for helping people work remotely.
