If the financial news from every TV, Radio, and Newspaper is selling “Disaster” and people are counting every penny, is it possible to actually SELL MORE?
*It depends on your marketing… and what your product is.
*If you’re selling shelf stable food like this company, you’d say “Stock Up! The Sky is Falling!” Worrisome times bring ordinary people to this company when otherwise they wouldn’t have a care in the world about owning canned butter.
*If you sell anything with real gold, silver, or platinum, you can possibly talk about it’s “intrinsic value”… as the old saying goes an ounce of gold still buys a fine suit of clothes today just like it did centuries ago.
*If you’re into personal care - like a Day Spa - the theme is “In these uncertain times - PAMPER YOURSELF!”
*Or you may find former objections now reversed. Like the massage therapist said - “An hour massage - costs less than a tank of gas and helps you longer!”
*Service what you sold. When the money is flowing, people buy new. When it’s not, people fix what they have and keep using it.
*Sell to people who aren’t affected by the downturn. This may require building your self-confidence and your contact base.
*Do more Guerilla Marketing - low budget strategies both on and offline.
*Find ways to capture the contact information of your existing customers so you can contact them with specials. Right now people check the web for low priced gas… what if a gas station had taken the time to create a contact list of emails, cell phone#’s for text messages and took the initiative to contact people and offer them incentives to buy and notified you before prices increased?
I just learned a local gas station/car wash gave free washes with fill ups. I never knew that…what if they’d told me? How many others don’t know?
*If people are stressed out, health and nutritional products that address these needs can still sell. People selling heart healthy nutrients can still sell to over 40 males who don’t want to have heart attacks. People in that age range probably remember Tim Russert’s death as vividly as the Pelosi-Paulson whine-a-thon. Right now people would appreciate a bargain on health related help… can you deliver it at a profit?
