WordPress Announcement is a free WordPress plugin that produces a “pop up announcement” for your WordPress blog visitors. The only receive the announcement once every 24 hours.
Firefox didn’t stop this pop up either. It plants a cookie in the browser, however, so that no visitor will see the announcement again for 24 hours.
I can see using this for short periods of time for actual announcements and special events, but if you have regular readers, I’d think it could drive them nuts very quickly (or at least train them to use a blog reader!)
On the other hand, if you’re using Wordpress as a “static sales site”, using this as a popup for getting email list subscribers might be appropriate all the time.
