Not for everything. There’ll still be autoresponders for the hard selling. I recommend Aweber for those. Excellent people.
By hard selling, I mean no previous relationship, an attitude of caution on the buyer’s part, that wondering “what the heck is really going on here?”
But once your customer has bought into your cause, could, for instance Twitter or a Facebook group begin to replace the old email list?
I don’t know and can’t say but it’s worth a test!
I think the key is to build the contacts around a common interest or cause like a “special interest group”. Facebook actually helps you build such lists because people are always seeing what other groups their friends are joining and – voila – instant referral.
I see a lot of potential in Twitter. Right now it’s really being used by spammers who have one message and who will “follow” you because they know you’ll get an email and will probably look at their ad at least once.
But I like Twitter because by updating it you can update all those social networks your friends conned you into joining because usually the other social apps like Facebook interface with Twitter. It’s interesting the information I can find from the people I follow too. Pretty cool.
Now that Facebook has over 90 million users, it’s growing faster than MySpace. Well worth checking out if your business serves a “cause” in some way.
