Playing With WordPress For Local Events

I love Word Press blogs for the way they can whip together a pretty decent site quickly and easily.

A friend of mine is coming to town to speak (non-business church event).

So last week we whipped up a custom website for him that you can see here.  It’s basically a domain name, hostgator hosting, and the plaintext WordPress theme. Tinkered with the widgets in each sidebar, uploaded some things, created a free download page, and you’ve got a website.

The topic may not be your cup of tea, but it’s more proof that if you’re planning to make your first website, WordPress is an excellent choice even for something that’s supposed to be a “static” site or affiliate site.

Any local business could do this, or hire me to do it of course.

A site like this - event driven - needs plenty of on the ground “guerrilla” marketing to get visitors.  Search engine traffic just won’t cut it.
