Editor’s Note: Writing sales letters is a skill. Top writers command a huge fee and tell YOU when you will get your letter. So often we have to begin writing our own sales letters.  Here are some tips until you hit the big time!

All writers should know how to create a solid sales letter for the I’net. Sales letters are those long scrolling Web pages that help sell products and services online.

1.  Writing is a skill that can be sold for side projects.
Even if your site doesn’t require a sales letter, you can earn extra bucks writing them.

2.  Successful sales letters follow a formula.
The final document should include the product/service features and benefits, testimonials, an official promise of quality and an attractive, layout.

3.  Benefits sell better than features.
A feature is a fact.  A benefit is how the customer will feel after using the product or service.  Think “cubic feet of leg room” vs. “a luxurious ride.”

4.  Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
There’s no need to recreate the wheel.  Cut-and-paste a successful sales letter into your document.  Use it as a template.

5.  Some words are more persuasive than others.
There are over 500,000 words in the English language.  Find the most persuasive word combinations by testing with Google AdWords and informal polls.
