Reverse Psychology In Marketing

July 22, 2008 by Chuck | 0 Comments

I don’t know anything about the opportunity presented by this press release. So I certainly don’t endorse the business opp offered at the site this press release links to.

I do however think this is a splendid example of “reverse psychology” in the home based business field.

While everyone else is saying “Here’s why you should join my business”, this one says “Here’s why you SHOULDN’T start a work at home business!”

Clever.

I’ll reprint it here since it’s a press release. Again, I don’t know anything about the business they are promoting and don’t endorse it.

8 good reasons why you shouldn’t start a home business.

Consider the following 8 points – if any of these apply to you, then it might be worth waiting until it doesn’t before you get started.

1. If you have less than 7 hours a week. And in sociable hours – not at 2am when you cant sleep!

2. If you don’t have at least 4 days of the week to spread your time over (ie – you cant do just 7hrs on Sunday). You need to do at least an hour on at least 4 days of the week.

3. If you are looking for a job! Running your own business, from home or otherwise will mean you are self employed. So not paid a fixed amount by the hour, week or month. The money you earn is the profit in your business. If you are looking for a job paid by the hour. Then a home business will probably not be the fit you are looking for at this time.

4. If are looking for a really short term financial fix. If you have a couple of weeks or months to earn some extra cash in, setting up and running a business is not going to be the vehicle for you.

5. If you don’t want to change anything about yourself / your life. If you do what you have always done, you will have what you have always had. If you want more – then something will have to change for this to happen. If you are not open to, or happy for things to change in your life then best to stay away from working from home!

6. If you are not open to learning new skills. And I’ll include in here being open to learning. Being teachable is critical to succeeding at working from home.

7. If you’re not willing to work for it. Any home business that is real and legitimate WILL take work. And it will take focus. You have to be prepared to drag yourself away from some of your favourite TV programs and do work instead. The rewards can be HUGE. But you will have to work for it.

8. If you don’t have a good reason why you want to run a business from home. You will need to have a goal, a reason who you are working from home. This goal will pull you towards the work. No goal = no pull = no work = home business unsuccessful.

Whilst there are going to be exceptions to every rule. And there are exceptional people out there who will be successful despite everything. But for most of us we shouldn’t start a home business if one of these 8 points above applies to us. Things change in life and even if the time is not right now, it may be in the future so keep your mind open so you don’t miss it when it comes!
