Amazon.com will be selling office supplies and going head to head with Staples, Office Depot, etc.
“With our enormous breadth of selection, we have paper, pencils, sticky notes, pushpins and much more, all available for purchase with the click of a mouse, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Chris Rupp, director of merchandising for computers and office supplies for Amazon, in a statement.
Has Amazon ever made a profit yet?
I actually know people who buy grocery items routinely from Amazon because of some free shipping and the fact that there is no sales tax over the internet.
As online stores erode brick and mortar business (they’ve killed independent bookstores in many towns), the merchants will be pushing for Amazon to collect the sales taxes.
But if gas prices stay high and the home delivery option doesn’t become too outrageous, this could become wildly popular with the work at home crowd.
I’m a bit of an “office supply a holic” and have a particular liking for moleskine products. With high speed at home now, this may be my downfall time wise!
Check the selection out for yourself…
