Happy Memorial Day… will you be working at home or have the day off? Either way, thanks for visiting.
Some tidbits for the day comparing Mother’s Day and Memorial Day.
Originally Mother’s Day which began in 1908 was designed to give the mothers of our nation the same respect and attention we give to veterans on Memorial Day. Back then Mother’s Day celebrated the women and Memorial Day the men.
Memorial Day celebrated those who “gave their all” (it had originally been a “Decoration Day” where the graves of the fallen were adorned with flowers). Mother’s Day celebrated those who kept the communities and families intact while the men were away at War.
Mother’s Day was also a “Memorial Day” of sorts for the Mother’s who had lost husbands, fathers, and sons to war.
