A Sad Home Medical Transcription Training Course

March 14, 2008 by Chuck | 0 Comments

I don’t know the “school” but I was talking with a lady wanting to do home medical transcription.

She told me she was taking a “course” to allow her to do medical transcription at home.

When she described the course – she said it was teaching her how to use POWER POINT!

Folks, my wife’s been doing home medical transcription for years and never uses power point!

In other words a course on Microsoft Office has been repackaged to “create” a “Medical Transcription” course. And if you know nothing about the field, you might as well add all the pure JUNK you can so you can inflate your prices!

It’s completely bogus and outrageous.

MT courses should ASSUME you know how to use Microsoft Word. For one contract my wife had to use Excel as a short term “character count” tool but even then it was until a software program received a “patch”!

The only other software you should be using is PROPRIETARY and related to Medical Transcription like the hardward/software combo Gear Player .

So PLEASE, before signing up for one of these alleged Medical Transcription programs, please check the curriculum. If one of the first courses ISN’T something like the “Language of Medicine” – it’s probably a joke of a course.

I only recommend Oak Horizons which trains students through local community colleges though I’m sure there are other good programs out there. It’s the only one I have experience with.
