I saw this a few days ago and forgot to link to it.
Now Seth, don’t you know IT IS NOT A RECESSION UNTIL THE POLITICIANS SAY IT’S OVER AND CAN TAKE CREDIT FOR FIXING IT AFTER 200 million people worked their behinds off trying climb out of it and survive in the meantime, “Economic Stimulus Checks” notwithstanding!
But anyway… here’s his thoughts on the subject
When times are good, buying things is a sport. It’s a reward. The story we tell ourselves is that we deserve it, that we want it and why not?
When the mass psychology changes and times are seen as not so good, the story we tell ourselves changes as well. Now, we buy out of defense, to avoid trouble. Or we buy because something will never be as cheap again. Or we buy smaller items for the same sense of reward.
So in other words, what you were selling as a luxury before you must now position as a life saving necessity for whatever reason.
So while before the recession you read this blog just as your sinful escape from responsibility, NOW (if we had a recession that is but we won’t have had one till it’s over and a politician can take credit for fixing it) you read this blog out of the sheer craven fear that you’re going to die instantly if you don’t visit every new post and leave a brilliant comment!
