23 Disadvantages To Self Employment

They’re worth noting but I find some of them technically inaccurate and sometimes short sighted like the first one “Self Employed People pay more taxes”. They also tend to be more scrupulous about noting allowable deductions as well which could actually lower some taxes.

Also, there are differences between self employment via BUSINESS and self employment in an occupation. For instance, most home based occupations don’t require licenses and extra business taxes like running a self employed BUSINESS does.

Point #2 is well taken though… we underestimate the financial impact of things like health insurance and other benefits until we realize how much we need to earn to provide for these things ourselves through our work.

But if you can’t find a job or the one you’ve found is driving you insane or your “day job” doesn’t provide enough income all by itself, then unless you can find another job, self-employment may be your only option.
