Changing Tecnologies Leave Home Based Medical Transcriptionists Scrambling

I got a frantic call the other day because a home based medical transcriptionist got one of those frightening calls.

Unless she got high speed internet in 3 months, she’ll lose her job.

She lives in a rural area however, and all the big telecommunication companies are too busy raking it in from the easy pickings customers.

Here’s what she found.

There’s a local provider of wireless high speed.

If she finds 6 other customers nearby, he’ll set up a small receiving tower to accomodate her and them. The cost? Only $50 installation and $30 per month for unlimited use.

Thankfully her rural county has this kind of entrepreneur.

But of course AT&T, Charter Cable, and several other providers of wireless were too busy to help.

Satellite internet won’t work for most transcriptionists.

She – and you – have to keep checking.
