A while back I wrote about how to a business could use WordPress to build a local business website. I’m building one of those for a friend right now.
As the site takes shape, I’ll be posting links and snapshots of how I build it.
The first thing I did was register a domain name. Basically for him it involved one keyword and possibly a second depending on the user. It was based on the customer’s request not in depth keyword research. This combination may also have the possibility of for appreciation - or not, who can tell?
The second thing we did was sign up for hosting. There are many good providers but I’ve had good experiences with Hostgator.com. I’ve posted a link to them with a coupon code that lets you get a discount for hosting a WordPress blog there. (post continued after the “coupon”!)
Anyway, after pointing the domain name to the DNS servers (I use namecheap.com to register and manage my domains), while waiting for the DNS to resolve, I have started checking out possible WordPress Themes to use.
This is a business so, as you know, the landing page will be a static page, not the blog posts in this case. And the landing page will be fairly conservative… mostly white and back though I do have a few images in reserve to dress it up.
As Drudge says… “Developing”!

Adapting wordpress for a business is a great idea, no to mention cuts the work load down. I may give this ago on my next project, but for now my blog The Shelf will have to act as a test site

Businesses especially need something easy to update and the posting function of a blog made with Word Press makes this very easy. Plus there are lots of good templates.
