In a related article to the one about $100 Laptops, Microsoft is feeling the heat of technological change too.
The Asus EEPC is one of the new breed of stripped down laptops that are flash based using the same type of memory as, say, a digital Mp3 recorder.
There’s just one problem, Microsoft has been building Windows to operate on computers with huge hard drives, not just the 2 to 8 G of memory in these devices.
So as these devices grow in popularity, Microsoft is having to adapt or lose market share.
The $100 “One Laptop Per Child” computer for example uses open source software like Asus, so while Windows compatible, Bill Gates isn’t earning a royalty on these babies.
Would you use one for your business? At under $500 “fully loaded” they can do most anything.
