Growing A Solar Business One Neighborhood At A Time

December 17, 2007 by Chuck | 0 Comments

I used to have a largely solar powered home and would love to have one again some time. So I couldn’t help but notice this entrepreneur who wants to see whole neighborhoods switch to solar power!

When 40 or 50 homes switch in a short period of time, that brings down the cost of installation for everyone by 20% to 30%. Because installation of the solar electric systems can make up half the cost of a typical $30,000 system, this entrepreneur’s program saves consumers money because they can combine partial days at work sites and add the pluses that come from buying in bulk.

Some of the homeowners generate enough electricity to power their own homes and sell the excess to the local power system during the day. One customer’s bill (since they use the power company’s power at night) is just $9 per month!

This used to be a home based business with just 2 employees. Now after 18 months they have 198! 6 of them are full time helping Californian’s process state rebate forms for the solar installation.

Cool.
