Finding Buyers In A You Tube World

November 29, 2007 by Chuck | 0 Comments

The Wall Street Journal has a great article on finding buyers through online video. It’s called “Lights! Camera! Sales!” and it’s  a good read.

One person they profiled is an artist, but evidently she’s not a starving one! She uses free YouTube videos to sell her products on Ebay to the highest bidder. Her videos have gotten over 8 million viewers. Even by “accident” she’s making sales!

Comedy seems to be one common denominator of a successful video.  But funny doesn’t mean brilliantly clever. One blender company saw their sales skyrocket 500% by videos of their blenders testing everything from 2by 4’s to an iPhone. So it’s not exactly a high art form.

If it’s viral enough, then some make money just from the ad revenues on Revver.com.

But not all good videos are funny. Some are just based on current events.

You’ll just have to test it yourself.

Note: Here’s a small business hosting platform that lets you use videos on your own site if YouTube isn’t an option for some reason. (Some business videos seem to get booted!)
