It sounds like a “Disintegrator Ray” from a 1940’s cartoon strip, but it’s real… it’s the “Plasma Melter” .
It can turn a used tennis shoe into a little ball of glass like substance suitable for road paving and create an alternative fuel gas as a carbon energy source.
If commercially viable, it could solve many landfill problems and produce an alternative I suppose to “natural gas”.
