The Coming Retirement Of Baby Boomers Opens New Doors

Here are two articles that caught my eye:

Preparing Generation X for baby boom retirements

As tradesmen age, new workers in short supply

The first is about the loss of baby boomers. Baby boomers tend to “know the business” better while “Gen-Xers” are more adaptable. So it’s a reminder that corporately, the next generation had better be mentored for the future RIGHT NOW.  What it didn’t mention was the SHORTAGE of qualified workers to fill these positions that the futurists are predicting.  The Federal and State Governments are especially going to feel the crunch… maybe that will be the thing that finally shrinks the size of government – not enough workers.

The second article caught my eye because we tend to think of “trades” like electricians and plumbing as “dead end jobs” or “jobs not in demand”.

Because so many young folks want to grow up to “make computer games” (it must be a subliminal message promoted through arcades and the games themselves), there’s a looming shortage in skilled trades workers it appears.  When? In the next 5 to 10 years?

Those shortages might open up some strong income opportunities if people can get past the stigma of “just being a plumber”…you know the guy who get’s paid as much as a doctor for coming out in the middle of the night or on weekends.
