At the Student Fair yesterday, the people getting the most traffic were the cops with the machine gun I noticed. They had a big “Crime Scene Investigation” van there too so the “TV effect” gave them some play.
So what if you DIDN’T have a machine gun to attract the kids with?
As I’ve said previously in the articles here you have to be proactive and get your leads.
Instead of giving away junk yesterday, we had a software program that printed out career paths for kids. The best thing was that it told them High School classes to take to help them reach their career goals.
So we printed out 3 to 4 page customized plans (the kids typed their names in before they print) for everything from Pilots to Police Officers to Pharmaceutical Sales Reps to Writers and Musicians.
Do you have an assessment tool or other test or quiz or survey people will find fun to take?
At one trade show, people in the booth got lots of action because they had a stuffed toy moose. For some reason, that set them apart from everyone else and opened the door for lots of conversations to start.
But both I and the “Moose Man” weren’t sitting down though hoping these things would attract people. We were on our feet all day at the front of the booth talking to people.
The attraction only lasts a second, you have to be there to follow up instantly when the ice thaws for a few seconds. They’ll freeze over again quickly if you’re not in action to seize the moment.
