Antone Roundy has produced a number of useful tools for webmasters starting with his CaRP - RSS to HTML Converter.
Now he’s created a neat little tool called ExPop.
What it does is “intuitively” pop up an unblockable hover ad as the customer is about to leave.
To see it in action, visit ExPop and then move your cursor towards the “back” button on your browser and see what happens!
It uses dhtml, not an annoying old fashioned “pop up ad”.
And you control the content completely … it’s not some crazy ad network that will put all sorts of trash in front of your customers and it WON’T keep someone from leaving your site or disable their browser in anyway.
It’s just sort of startling and cool actually.
First, I have no idea how this will affect search engine rankings. It shouldn’t but who knows? It’s not a pop up, it’s just a screen effect. Like any script you have to test it to make sure all your pages are loading.
Now there’s just one thing… your site’s hosting package must support .php, but the actual page can be .html, .php, .asp, or whatever as long as the site itself supports .php programming. This means most hosting packages will allow you to use this script as will your wordpress blog IF you host it on your own domain.
This script shouldn’t cause any problem in itself, but when you’re tinkering around with your website, you don’t take chances do you?
One of the most aggravating things in the Web 2.0 world is that you can have gobs of traffic from a “social network” who come, browse and hit the road.
If you could stay in touch with a fraction of these visitors, that would be very valuable.
For a small onetime fee, you can install this script on any of your websites and create your own custom ads.
ExPop might really boost your traffic results.
