Congress hears from eBay sellers on proposed sales tax

Why?

Because November 1st, the moratorium on Internet Access Taxation expires.

Also, that’s when states want you to collect their sales tax for them, even customers don’t reside in your state.

If that happens, it’s only going to work if ebay assesses the respective taxes just like they do auction fees.

If that happens, I doubt it will still work because people will – if at all possible – change to other selling formats that don’t give a hoot about U.S. states…

This could pave the way for a new offshore trading platform that flips their nose at our tax hungry state legislatures and also be a big boost for Craigslist since they only run ads. They don’t charge transaction fees like Ebay.
