We got this email the other day and if you have any answers, would you please leave them in the comments or contact me directly?
Thanks!
I have a neighbor who just ratted on me to local building inspector about home business I run here in suburban NYC town.
The authorities are reluctant to press the issue and want to look the other way but neighbor but is insisting that I remove my business from my home. I have an office, a secretary/asst, and some of my kid’s friends who do light product assembly and packaging after school.
The only exterior disruption to the neighborhood is 1-3 Fedex/UPS pick-up/deliveries a day which total 15 minutes max. of truck activity on street (where some eBay shopping nuts get regular deliveries too). I get a delivery/pick-up by semi or large truck about 4x/yr.
My impact is certainly more than pure residential but if you add up the disturbance time it’s 50 minutes a week. Most of my neighbors spend twice that running lawn gear in the average week. I hire a gardening service that does my place in about 20 minutes.
Has anyone faced a similar issue? Does anyone know of any resources regarding this issue that I might tap into? Am wondering if you have research where municipalities faced similar ituations and made adjustments to zoning law in favor of home-based usinesses.
