In his book “Thou Shalt Prosper” by Rabbi Daniel Lapin, he asks this question (I paraphrase): “If Mother Theresa is noble for helping the victims of poverty, isn’t it equally noble to help eliminate the poverty?”
When I was pondering that quote, I couldn’t help but think of a recent article regarding KickStart International.
They are all about identifying high high potential small business opportunities in poverty depressed areas, developing technologies and business packages, helps manufacturers prepare to meet the demand, then they help create the demand by promoting the new technology/business.

And instead of giving things away to people, they protect the dignity of the poor by making them pay for the technology.
Very impressive.
Their inhouse statistics say they can lift a family permanently out of poverty for every $250 donation they receive. You see, while the people pay for the product, donations to KickStart act to fund the “research, development, marketing, and oversight” involved.
