How Tiffany Dow Started Working At Home On The Net

Tiffany Dow used to work at a bank. Now she’s a work at home mom. How’d she make the transition? More importantly in her case – WHAT motivated the transition?

In her own words…

It was late 1999 and my son was diagnosed with RSV – an infant respiratory illness. At the time I worked nights at Bank One’s Corporate Center resolving funding issues so we wouldn’t have to put our kids in daycare, but knowing he was sick – I couldn’t bear it. The day he was diagnosed, I packed up my desk and turned in my resignation effective immediately.

I vowed to stay home for good, even if we had to cut all of our expenses and downsize significantly. While surfing eBay for birthday Jets gear for my husband (since I’m in Texas and can’t find it here), I found “Professional Services” listed. Nosy one that I am, I clicked the link and it took me to Elance.

On Elance, I built up a reputation as a top Internet Marketing writer, ghosting for some of the biggest names in the business. My pay rate steadily increased as demand far outweighed supply for my time.

Eventually, befriending these top ‘net marketers paid off for me in another way. They taught me the ropes and I was able to morph into a marketer myself full-time.

Why make the transition? Let’s look at this week alone. A client used to pay me $1,000 to write a 50-page eBook (this is before my rate rose to $30 per page). This week as a marketer, my Social Networking on Squidoo eBook has already taken in over $3,000.

This doesn’t include sales from my affiliate products that I promote or the sales from my other eBook called A Writer’s Guide to Internet Marketing. You can see the difference in money, but there’s another perk.

My Squidoo eBook was written and launched. Now – I do nothing. My affiliates promote it and it’s really true passive income for me. Am I kicking myself for not making the transition sooner? Yep.

One of the best decisions I made was to launch my PLR Mini Mart, because my visitors can give me a custom request of topics they want and I can build my PLR packs for what I already know my target audience needs.

My next career step is to launch my completed eBook called Building an eBook Empire. All that’s left is the sales copy and bonus items. I know many marketers use rehashed bonuses, but I like to write unique ones that complement my products.

PS – My son is now 7 and thriving. I stayed up with him all night, every night – just making sure he was breathing. I, too, hate an unfinished story as “Countrygilr” pointed out in my guestbook.

I worked for nearly three years from home doing eBay, back in the beginning when you could sell a bag of Florida sand for a profit. Everything sold, things were out on the street every day to buy and turn for a good profit. I sold antiques and vintage stuff, my background is antiques.

Those days slowly started petering out and the money got less and less so, stupidly, I bought my own antiques business and for 7 years went through hell. I dreaded the end of the month – bill/rent time, and in the last few months I began to hate most of the people that came into the shop. They were cheap or had no intention of buying anything, or just came to waste time. I left that business with a large debt.

Being used to spending hours on line with the eBay stuff, I decided I would try to earn a living online but wasn’t sure how. I found a good company that showed me how to build a website properly, but I chose a subject that was unprofitable, and when someone asked me if I would sell the site, I jumped at the opportunity.

Now what to do? By my estimation I spent 2500 hours online within a couple of short months, searching for something bona fide that I could do. I bought tons of Guru BS programs and sent all but three of them back.

After looking at all the schemes and “secret” tips and ways of making money online, I decided to go first with Tiffany Dow’s PLR ATM course. Then I discovered Brian Johnson’s Commission Ritual, then somehow I discovered Matt Carter. Dan Brock’s Lazy Affiliate complemented Brian’s course nicely.

I strongly suspect that Google will eventually slap all the little niche sites that promote affiliate products, especially Amazon and the like, but I have a few sites up that are starting to show a trickle a trickle of income, so if I am wrong, good. They have only been up less than two weeks to date, so I am pleased with the results. If they do get slapped, I can go back to article writing and PLR.

The key to working from home and earning from the internet IMHO, is discipline and not putting all your eggs in one basket, and, most importantly, finding people you can trust. Any of the people I have mentioned above take the time to answer questions and are good, honest, helpful people.

My recommendation FWIW. Find what you like to do, and stick with it. I spent yesterday unsubscribing from all the other Guru comedian’s email lists and I feel so much better, that’s freed up an extra hour a day. I can’t get conned into watching 90 minute USELESS webinars either, I was getting invitations nearly every night. Most of these webinars tell you very little and are just long-winded promos for stuff you don’t need anyway. Another 6 hours a week saved.

I wish everyone good luck with their enterprises, just concentrate and work hard and you will succeed.
