Georgia Employers may be eligible for a tax credit worth up to $20,000 for helping their employees telework. You can read more here…
Georgia is the first state in the nation to offer a teleworking tax credit for the 2008 tax year, but employers must act quickly to take advantage of the credit before the October 31 application deadline. To assist interested employers in receiving the credit, The Clean Air Campaign®, in partnership with AeA, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Business Coalition and the Technology Association of Georgia are hosting a free one-hour information session on Friday, September 21 at the Woodruff Arts Center. The session will address the many benefits of teleworking and will teach employers how to apply for the credit.
The Georgia Telework Tax Credit gives employers up to $20,000 in tax credits for program set-up and an additional credit of up to $1,200 per new teleworker. To receive these credits, employers must complete a simple application to qualify. The information session will help to clarify the process and explain the qualifications necessary. Employers will also learn how teleworking can positively affect their business and about the resources available to get a telework program started at any worksite.
“A recent survey showed that more than 200,000 people in metro Atlanta telework at least one day a week, and nearly twice that many telework occasionally” said Kevin Green, executive director of The Clean Air Campaign. “This tax credit has the potential to increase those numbers by removing some of the financial barriers to telework. If an employer has ever considered implementing a telework program, now is the time to act.”
The Georgia Telework Tax Credit can help employers get a telework program started at their business by providing tax credits on equipment such as computers and software and on costs associated with planning, consulting and training. Expert consulting services are available from The Clean Air Campaign, which has already helped more than 50 employers start or expand telework programs, creating almost 3,500 new teleworkers since 2004.
