Blogging For Dollars With PayPerPost.com

I was doing some research on what bloggers are making to post placements on their blogs and here’s something interesting I ran across.

At PayPerPost.com they listed the following blogs as their top earners for the month of August I presume:

Karen Karen
$1,804.91

Laurie Laurie
$1,605.08

Lisa Lisa
$1,588.43

I’m sure most bloggers would be happy to generate that kind of revenue from their blogging.  I’m sure $1500 a month is not that remarkable for some bloggers, but overall I’d say they’re doing pretty good and definitely better than most.  I know many stay at home moms for whom $1500 cash per month would mean the difference between getting to be home with their kids or working a day job.  Congratulations!

The thing I noticed about all of them is that they are personal blogs… not really “niche” blogs about a particular topic. As such they exercise a lot more freedom to choose topics and thereby choose more writing projects. For instance people come here to read about working at home in some form or fashion so if I started posting about the latest  pedicure treatment (for some wild example) it would seem off topic here but not for these blogs.

PayPerPost lets the bloggers choose what assignments they want within certain parameters unlike other services which contact the blogger when they want some work done. The “don’t call us we’ll call you” services generally want thematically tighter blogs focusing on identifiable niches.

So the direction of your blog determines earnings.  If you want to be perceived as an expert on something, do a niche blog. If you just love to write, want to get paid, and stay home with the kids, you may be able to make money faster by having a personal blog that discusses a number of themes which happen to let you pick up a greater variety of posting opportunities.

For folks wanting a blog to position themselves in a business niche that won’t tolerate off topic posting, you may want to go back and read my post on “How To Triple Your Odds of Blogging Success”

I usually write an article about home business on my blog.

My blog has one direction (home business), visitors of my blog won’t find any post that talks about my vacation on certain places.

I would prefer to visit a blog that stuck with a particular niche. Off topic conversation just doesn’t work if you want useful information.
