Boston Herald Trashes Xango!

The Boston Herald trashed the MLM company Xango in the news recently. Not that newspapers are exactly the business you want to be jumping into these days either now that Craigslist and Google are eating their advertising lunch, but MLM’s always an easy whipping boy.

Here’s how it starts…

The promises start with a healthy immune system and pain-free joints, move through a cleaner intestine and an improved respiratory system, and then escalate to where you can make a fortune.

And that’s when it becomes obvious that going into business selling XanGo Juice - a nutritional supplement made from an antioxidant-rich fruit called the mangosteen - is a Stupid Investment of the Week.

XanGo Juice is one of countless health products sold through what supporters call “direct marketing,” but what critics label “multilevel marketing.” No matter what you call it, it’s quickly clear that you’re swallowing more than just juice if you expect this to lead to a successful home-based business.

This is just more rehashed baloney you’ve heard a million times before. It’s based on

1. Distributors who oversell the opportunity

2. Tired concerns about “buying too much inventory” carried over from the stairstep breakaway compensation plan days that for the most part are abuses which no longer exist in the industry though did. It’s a bit like saying still saying driving cars are dangerous because there aren’t seat belts. That was a legitimate concern in 1950!

3. Chicken Little, foam at the mouth, ranting about someone’s potential loss of $25 to sign up as a distributor. Gee I wonder how much someone lost as a result of reading the newspapers financial pages? Could it have been more than $25?

4. And finally the tired cliche - most people never earn a six figure income in this business. This is why I like Tom Schreiter’s approach of selling the benefits of earning an extra $500 per month in an MLM business.

But this argument is still fallacious … if not being able to earn six figures were a reason not to get involved in something why should anyone even get up and go to work? Most people don’t earn six figures at anything.

All the while admitting the product is good! I guess that’s something.
