Generation Y May Add Mobility To The Workforce

They’re 70 million strong and so used to having their own way they it’s downright annoying. But they have skills and employers need them. In fact, the futurist guru’s say there’ll be a huge shortage of workers (10 million or so) within the next 20 years.

Generation Y is  so mobile, they may – quite unintentionally – speed the transition of many jobs so that they can be worked from the local Starbucks (or equivalent). That’s not what they author meant, but Generation Y expects superior “work/life balance” and because they basically want recognition for breathing and other similarly heroic acts, they want to be kept happy about working on the go too.

It’s good in that the trend to working at home will not just be considered for odd ball lazy misanthropes.

You can read more about it at the Kansas City Business Journal...

“This generation is not looking for lifetime employment but lifetime employability, and it’s up to the company to create the kind of environment that makes them stay there,” John Laws said.
