Forums hold potential - if they become popular and well traveled - to make the owner money. That is if the owner follows the right forum profit tips in ebooks like this one. PhpBB forums can be tricky however.
The hardest thing is trying to sell ads yourself as you read how NOT to do it here!

It’s like selling ads for a magazine you run from your home but worse. Instead of selling ads for a bi-monthly,monthly or weekly paper, things can change DAILY.

Most people want to collect ad revenue, but most don’t like the selling involved!

How NOT to Insert Ads

If you fancy getting into the phpBB programming code you might eventually discover where to plug in these ads.

And it needs you - as forum administrator - to make the actual code changes for each ad you run.

But that would be the easy part.

Then comes the work of

  • booking advertising slots
  • maintaining a scheduling system
  • accepting payment
  • preparing the ad
  • posting the ad on the agreed date
  • making ad changes if requested
  • handling cancellations
  • while negotiating with the advertiser at various steps

It’s a huge and laborious administrative task.

The overhead in posting a single ad is so high that you would need to insist on a minimum period (such as a week) for a slot, you certainly could not allow a different advertiser every day.

And if you decide to make all the coding changes on a weekly basis you would have to defer customers ready to start an ad in mid week, leaving vacant gaps in the slots and loss of income.

The solution ?

A tool specially designed to remove all of the administration.
