My wife has taken some work from a home medical transcription company. It’s based in Georgia. She and I just assumed that all the other folks were “local”. We found out about it because one of her instructors in medical transcription school knows the owner of this company.
Anyway, today she found out that another one of her team members is based in a South Dakota town of about 1500. It’s so small there’s not even a McDonald’s. When the people in Georgia are complaining about the heat, she’s talking about the snow on the ground.
We started to think about that - this person we know (not just in an “article” in some newspaper) is transcribing medical reports from a hospital on the eastern seaboard from a little town in the “Middle of nowhere”. Her income is not dependent on the vagaries of the local economy (at least not the South Dakota local economy!). She bases her income on a much more vigorous economy but has the advantage of living “in the country”.
Cool isn’t it?
Do you know someone personally who’s doing that?
