People rightly have come to love Skype.

A recent outage of the service left folks scratching their heads however because so many have become dependent on the service for their lives and home based businesses.

So what happened?

According to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, Skype blames it on all you users restarting your computer after downloading an upgrade!

In a company blog, Skype said the disruption “was initiated by a massive restart of our users’ computers across the globe within a very short timeframe as they re-booted after receiving a routine software update. The abnormally high number of restarts affected Skype’s network resources. This caused a flood of log-in requests, which, combined with the lack of peer-to-peer network resources, prompted a chain reaction that had a critical impact.”

The glitch was the company’s first major outage since it October 2005, when it was down for a few hours.
