Flexibility, Working At Home New Criteria For Mom’s

July 30, 2007 by Chuck | 0 Comments

Instead of title’s, opportunities to advance up the corporate ladder, or even salary, flexibility, work life balance and the ability – if only as needed – to work at home with a sick child are the new criteria for mom’s in the workplace.

From the Syracuse Post Standard

When Lisa Evans, of Manlius, returned to the workforce this month after staying home with her baby for two years, she had to take a more junior position – at a lower pay rate – compared with the job she left.

But she didn’t mind. The new job offered flexible hours and a company culture where she can work from home if her daughter is ill. That’s more important than the salary or title, says Evans, who started work July 2 as a Web programmer at Eric Mower Associates in Syracuse.

She’s typical of many women re-entering the workforce after a few years or more as at-home moms. The days of wanting to stay late and work weekends to get ahead may be on hold because the chief objective now is to balance family life and a job.
