Here’s a proven way to make money… Build something big enough to get noticed, cash the check when a big conglomerate wants to diversify. This one started from home and stayed at home. At least till the deal is done.
From SeattlePI.com
I reported Tuesday that Recipezaar – an 8-year-old online recipe site that boasts 2.5 million unique visitors a month — was in late-stage talks to be acquired by a big publishing company.
Today, the deal is being officially announced, with the online unit of E.W. Scripps gobbling up the tiny 5-person Vashon Island company. The companies aren’t discussing the purchase price, though a source told me that Scripps was planning to pay more than $25 million.
As I point out today, Recipezaar is a true entrepreneurial success story.
No venture capital financing.
Profitable since 2000.
A bare-bones approach where employees work from home.
