Martha Barletta, author of Marketing to Women, points out that men prefer to occupy a pyramid, whereas women prefer to occupy a peer group. That’s why online social-networking groups like MySpace, Ryze and eCademy are growing in popularity with women; bringing the businesswomen who participate in these groups more fans and repeat buyers for their products and services.

Today, the business owner can go directly to her clients, finding them through social networks. You can easily identify the types of clients who would love your product or service through their online profile, the networks they belong to, and the blogs in which they actively participate.

One of women’s highest values is a feeling of closeness and connection with another person. Web 2.0 allows women to fulfill this need and make more money at the same time. Work-at-home moms are no longer at a disadvantage in expanding their networking. A work-at-home mom can have more friends and clients than anyone sitting in their store, waiting for the next person to walk through the door.

At last, the female customer can be in total control of the sales transaction. Previously, a woman had to meet at a person’s office to decide whether or not she wanted to do business with him. If she didn’t like where the conversation was going, she was forced to endure listening to the rest of the sales pitch before walking out. Now, she can click on a video on someone’s site, listen to a podcast, read a blog post and decide for herself — without ever introducing herself unless she wants to. This puts women in control like never before — and saves time!
