Is Personal Productivity All It’s Cracked Up To Be?

I’ve been putting up some posts on personal productivity.

A certain amount of concern in this area is good unless you end up killing yourself. You’ve got to wonder if corporations pay the GTD gurus so they won’t have to crack the whip themselves. When you’re self-employed, the constant focus on productivity could drive you nuts. I never knew the guy behind GTD had such an “interesting” background that many of my blog readers would find to be “nuts”. Maybe that’s how he became productive… having to out work the nuttiness.

For the dark side of the productivity world, I’ll quote a writer friend of mine Mark Horne commenting on the “Getting Thins Done” craze.

Sometimes I wonder if all this productivity stuff is a way of tricking the inmates into guarding themselves. Why constantly try to make your employees work all the time without stopping when you can get a guy to convince them it is empowering to do so on their own? There was a time when a business man on a business trip could read a book or catch a nap on the train without feeling like he was shirking work.
