Wouldn’t you love it if your name and website name were mentioned in a prominent media setting? You can see Marcia Yudkin being quoted here.
She offers some tips on getting the most from your media exposure.
The most obvious one that went unsaid was to actually be an expert (or at least highly knowledgeable) on something!
Too many people get into business to make a fast buck and prospective clients sense that they really don’t seem that knowledgeable.
Once you’ve got that down, here’s what you do…
From Marcia Yudkin
* Respond to media requests as quickly as possible. When you’re the first source a reporter talks to, what you say s more likely to seem informative to him or her than if
you’re the last interviewee.
* Be prepared. Anticipate what the reporter might ask and ake notes on three to five interesting points you could make.
* Have examples and details at hand. Chances are, you’re as bad as I am at remembering facts on the fly. So for each of our three to five points, note down an example, with names, dates, URLs and other specifics.
* Decline inappropriate interviews. If the media request doesn’t concern what you know backwards and forwards, don’t bluff. Refer the reporter to an expert. This earns you
gratitude (and future opportunities) from both!
