Moms and Dads working at home like the fact that they can have more flexibility to be with their kids. That’s a great benefit that should not be downplayed.
But the home business itself can have it’s own direct impact on your children’s well being if you handle it properly and actually communicate what’s going on to your child so they understand your perspective.
Some points to get across…
1. That working at home creates a viable income. It’s a real job, not just “play”.
2. Financial priorities. You can introduce financial planning like tax write offs, budgeting, etc. to introduce the concept of money to your children at a young age.
3. That working at home is not a “setback”. Lots of moms who leave a “career” to work at home are accused by some of “not using all their talents”. Let your child know that you’re seeking to use the full range of your talents as a parent and business person.
4. That even as children they can help in the “family business”. They’re an asset, not a liability to the family. They have a place and a purpose even as children unlike other children they know who feel aimless and are taught to be entertained at a young age instead of learning how to work and serve.

Thaks for the very useful work at home parenting article. I am a work at home Dad with two young children, and can now see more benefit in teaching them money issues as well!
